Charlotte is fortunate to host popular sports tournaments including the basketball tournaments of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), and the Southern Conference (So Con). Rich in its history and reputation, and proud member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II, the CIAA was established in 1912 as the nation's oldest black athletic conference. So Con is the nation's fifth-oldest NCAA Division I collegiate athletic association and a pioneer in emphasizing the development of the athletes, leaders and role models.
